The Western Electrical Cybersecurity Apprenticeship Training (WECAT) Program is a five-year program offered by NECA/IBEW promising electrical career growth opportunities.

The WECAT Program provides apprentices:

Cyber-electrical training & mentorship

8,000 hours of paid on-the-job training

900 hours of theory & hands-on classroom instruction

Courses include:

California Advanced Lighting Control Training Program (CALCTP) for Electrical Installers

The CALCTP Program trains apprentice electricians on the proper installation, programming, and maintenance of advanced lighting controls systems. Such systems typically include dimmers, occupancy sensors, photosensors, relay modules, and communication-based control devices.

Smart Building Energy Management Strategies (SBEMS)

The SBEMS course teaches apprentice electricians the fundamentals of energy management as it relates to their work as an electrical installer in smart buildings.

Apprentices learn the different energy management strategies that are being used today to ensure the stability of the electric grid and reduce total energy demand in commercial buildings.

Cybersecurity for Electricians

The Cybersecurity for Electricians course teaches apprentice electricians the fundamentals of networking and cybersecurity, specifically as it relates to their work as an electrical installer.

Apprentices learn the basic principles of cybersecurity and how to apply them to their personal devices, as well as the building system components they will install.
